Megan Marshall Author Visit
Megan Marshall will discuss her new book, Margaret Fuller: A New American Life. In her latest book, award-winning author Megan Marshall takes a fresh look at the trailblazing life of Margaret Fuller—Henry David Thoreau’s first editor, Ralph Waldo Emerson’s close friend, first female war correspondent, and tragic heroine.  Marshall, whose acclaimed The Peabody Sisters “discovered” three fascinating women, has done it again: no biography of Fuller has brought her to such vibrant life.

Megan Marshall is the author of The Peabody Sisters, which won the Francis Parkman Prize, the Mark Lynton History Prize, and the Massachusetts Book Award in nonfiction and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in biography and memoir. Her essays and reviews have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Book Review, The Atlantic, and Slate. A recipient of Guggenheim and NEH fellowships, Marshall teaches narrative nonfiction and the art of archival research in the MFA program at Emerson College.

Part of the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf series, this program will provide an overview of Islamic art, its context, and traditions. Participants will have the opportunity to interpret these traditions in the creation of a mosaic piece. Participants will be given the option of using the decorative technique of mosaic tile work to create either a planter or a clock. All materials will be provided. Artist and ArcWorks co-founder Peter Flister will teach this class.

Please note that this event will be held at the
ArcWorks Community Art Center, located at 22 Foster Street.
